Most Popular Audiobook Service: Audible

News from LifeHacker India: Finding time to listen to audiobooks is easy-almost as easy as it is to find great audiobooks to listen to. Last week we asked for your favorites, then looked at the five best audiobook services and put them to a vote. Now it’s time to highlight your favorite. Unsurprisingly, the juggernaut in the category took the crown. Audible, an Amazon company, took the top spot by a wide margin with over 70% of the votes cast. Free eBook and audiobook service at Jervis Public Library

News from The Rome Observer: ROME — Jervis Public Library will showcase the free eBook and e-audiobook, a download service available through the library on Tuesday, Aug. 7. The event is from 1 to 7 p.m. where readers of all ages are invited to learn how to download library eBooks and e-audiobooks through interactive demonstrations and high-definition instructional videos for free. “We are excited to offer our patrons this high tech opportunity to supplement the library’s one hour classes and assistance on demand at the reference desk and via phone,” Library Director Lisa Matte, said. Free audiobook service LibriVox hits 100m downloads

News from The Next Web: Librivox, the community that provides public domain texts, read by volunteers, has hit 100 million downloads. The organisation creates hundreds of audiobooks for free as mp3 or ogg files, providing access to an amazing selection of audio that is no longer under copyright in the USA. The hard work has paid off as LibriVox has also just received a grant from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation. The money will go towards improving the technical infrastructure and accessibility of its site. It is expanding its team in order to get that going.
