Book giveaway at Thomaston Public Library

News from knox.VillageSoup.com: Thomaston — For the first two weeks of January, the Friends of the Thomaston Public Library will be hosting a large scale book give away. Free books of all types, including recycled library books, children’s books, even some movies and audio books, will fill the shelves of the hallway bookshop, which will be “closed” during the give away. The give away will run from Jan. 3-14. “We’ve always had a free shelf,” head librarian Brian Sylvester said. “But lately we’ve gotten so many donations that we can’t keep up. Our storage room is overflowing.” Normally the shelves in the hallway corridor of the library serve as a used bookstore, selling donated books at steeply discounted prices to benefit library programs and events. Library enters era of ‘epukapuka’

News from Stuff.co.nz: JOHN ANTHONY Puke Ariki library has entered a new age after its ebook catalogue went live last week. Ebooks are electronic books which can be downloaded onto smartphones, tablets and electronic readers. Puke Ariki service delivery manager Dale Cousens said library members were now able to be issued ebooks at the library and online. Audio books – spoken stories which could be downloaded to electronic devices – would also be available for members to issue. The Puke Ariki project was part of a wider consortium of 13 lower North Island libraries which had set up an online catalogue called “epukapuka”, an adaptation of the Maori word for book, Ms Cousens said. Doing so requires a bit of work, however; here’s how you can do it. First, whether you need to go to the trouble of setting up your audiobooks for iTunes Match depends on where you got them. If you bought them from the iTunes Store, you’re out of luck.
